Breath Prayer

October 23, 2023 | Jake Harp

Try this ancient prayer practice as you set the trajectory of your mind, heart, and will on God for the next several weeks. Take your time, regulate your body, speak to God, and listen for his response.

For the first minute, sit in silence and try to regulate your breathing. Inhale slowly, hold your breath for a few seconds, and then exhale slowly. This practice will help you slow your body, quiet your mind, and quiet your soul in preparation for spending time being with God.

If this is your first time practicing the breath prayer, you may need to have some words you say silently to yourself to stay focused. For example, while you breathe in, you may pray, “The Lord is my shepherd,” hold your breath for a few seconds, and while you breathe out, you may pray, “I lack nothing."

Then spend five minutes praying to God and listening for his will for your life during the NEW LIFE series.
